Well-appointed and deceptively quick—especially in triple Weber Super Sport trim—the grand tourer proved a firm favourite for everyone from Prince Rainier of Monaco to the dashing Count Trossi, also finding favour with Hollywood starlets such as Rita Hayworth.
The model was introduced just as Europe was spiralling towards war, a more technologically advanced replacement for the 6C 2300B and 8C that featured independent suspension at each corner.
It would be the final Alfa Romeo to be sold with a separate chassis, with a number of Italian coachbuilders including Pinin Farina and Ghia putting their mark on the short-chassis Super Sport once production had restarted in 1945.
