Unveiled in March 2020, the McLaren 765 Long Tail—765LT for short—continued McLaren Automotives’ distinctive “Long Tail” styling, paying homage to the legendary F1 GTR of nearly two decades prior, with its extended rear bodywork designed to improve aerodynamics.

A track focused version of the McLaren 720, the 765 coupe was built on a carbon-fiber “Monocage II”—McLaren’s term for a monocoque chassis—with an extruded aluminum subframe, revised aerodynamics, and a tuned version of the vaunted M840T engine.

Borrowing numerous performance parts from the McLaren Senna, including a triple layered head gasket, high-capacity fuel pump, and forged aluminum pistons, engineers were able to push the mid-mounted, twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 to an eyewatering 755 horsepower at 7,500 rpm.

Using the same enhanced engine as its closed-roof sibling, the 765LT Spider debuted in July 2021.
