The earliest 250 Cabriolet was a natural addition to Ferrari’s sporting 250 GT range, with the Pinin Farina-designed Series I car revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in 1957.

Ferrari would oversee production of just 36 sought-after Series I examples, yet by the tail-end of the 1950s the first mass-produced Prancing Horse had gained such success and notoriety that a second series of the 250 GT Cabriolet soon entered in development.

It followed the lines of its coupé sister model, also sharing its mechanical components.

The 250 GT Cabriolet Series II benefitted from the latest Tipo 128F 3.0-litre “Colombo” V-12 engine, featuring an “outside plug” design, coil valve springs, and 12-port cylinder heads, while breathing through triple-Weber 38 DCN carburettors.

One of 200 examples built by Ferrari, this second-series 250 GT Cabriolet—chassis 2381—was the 112th example made, and began life at Pinin Farina’s Grugliasco plant on 30 December 1960.
