AI Listing Summary

This 1963 Aston Martin DB4 Convertible, chassis DB4C/1082/L, is a rare find, one of only 70 ever built. It's believed to be one of just seven "Series V" convertibles in left-hand drive with the uprated Special Series “SS” engine, and one of 12 originally sold to the United States. The car is currently located in Dubai and needs recommissioning after being largely unused for several years.

Condition

6

The car is described as being in need of recommissioning, suggesting it has been largely unused for several years. While it's a rare and desirable example, the need for recommissioning implies that it is not in perfect or near-perfect condition. Cosmetic and mechanical wear would be expected.

In many ways, the DB4 is the model that foretold Aston Martin’s future.

Introduced in 1958, the saloon was entirely new from the ground-up; a newly designed platform chassis was fitted with all-round disc brakes, and the famous engineer Tadek Marek designed an all-new six-cylinder engine.

All this was housed in a stunning saloon fastback body penned by Touring of Milan; it was this styling that would set the scene for Aston Martin for many years to come.

As the years progressed, Aston Martin continued to refine their star model; aficionados have separated the model into five distinct series.

Upgrades to successive series included subtle body modifications including recessed rear lights, a lower bonnet scoop, and a new grille with vertical bars, in addition to the resolution of mechanical issues such as engine overheating.

Perhaps the most notable change was in 1961, when Aston Martin allowed customers to specify the Special Series, or “SS”, engine.
