Introduced in June 1957, the Messerschmitt KR201 Roadster is one of the most glamorous of all the ‘Kabinenroller’ which importantly addressed some of the challenges faced by clients in warmer climates who were suffering under the Perspex roofs of the standard K200.

The 191 cc Fichtel & Sachs engine featured a raised compression ratio of 8.0:1, producing an extra 2 bhp and endowing the KR201 with a maximum speed of 65 mph.

For the roadster, the bubble effect of the closed car was lessened, and a simple elegance was created by the frameless windscreen and scissors-type hood.

The interior featured handsome upholstery picked out in imitation snakeskin.

The front seat was adjustable and could be tipped up for convenient entry.

First registered in Portugal in 1969, according to the old-style registration, this KR201 has been carefully stored in Mr Sáragga’s pristine, climate-controlled garage.
