Hudson Motor Car Company’s companion Essex marque achieved third place in US sales in 1929, a landmark achievement.

In 1932, the firm made history with a new lightweight model called ‘Terraplane,’ marketed as ‘land-flying.’ It became so successful that the Essex name was phased out by 1934, when all Hudsons adopted Terraplane’s cruciform lightened chassis architecture.

This convertible coupe was part of the Model K six-cylinder line.

Accompanying documentation shows that this example was delivered new to Portugal and retains its original engine.

Previously white, the yellow paint is nicely contrasted with black leather upholstery and matching canvas hood.

The dickie seat and fold-out windscreen were standard.

Terraplanes enjoyed a certain vogue through 1938, by which time the models had been fully integrated into the Hudson catalogue and the model name was discontinued.

This is a very charming example of a well-loved automobile.
