It seems like only yesterday that the sleek German sports car hit the streets, wowing everyone in the process.

It was a bit of a shock really because big power, handsome two-door supercars like the R8 were historically the reserve of exotic auto makers such as Ferrari and Lamborghini rather than the more composed, technologically focussed German firm but then it did share its underpinnings, and indeed its engine with the Gallardo.

Back in 2006 when the R8 launched, if you were going to borrow some bits and pieces to get the ball rolling on your brand new supercar then you could certainly do a hell of a lot worse than Lamborghini's fire-breathing, V10-equipped sports car but Audi did just that and the R8 concept...
