The XF, of which the R-S is a derivative, was unveiled in 2007 as Jaguar's modern take on the executive luxury sports saloon and was offered in numerous levels of trim and with various engines, but it wasn't until the XFR arrived in 2009 that things got particularly spicy.

Here was a high-performance version of said saloon equipped with a 5.0-litre supercharged AJ-V8 Gen III engine rated at just over 500bhp, harking back to the powerful and agile Jags of years gone by.

It was, by all intents and purposes, a spectacular car but Jaguar wasn't content to sit just on its laurels.
