Launched in September 1991 as the successor to the 205 GTI, the Peugeot 106 XSI adapted the concept of the sporty city car to the environmental constraints of the 1990s.

Its formula relied on a featherweight chassis weighing 860 kg paired with a 1.4L engine producing 100 ch, later a 1.6L engine producing 105 ch, all wrapped in a “chic and sporty” design recognizable by its fender flares and 14-inch wheels.
