Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1976, the Ferrari 512 BB succeeded the 365 GT4 BB, building upon its technical and aerodynamic architecture.

Its model name refers to its 5.0-liter displacement and its flat-12 engine layout (a 180° block inherited from the Formula 1 single-seaters of the Niki Lauda era), while the "BB" designation refers to the Berlinetta Boxer lineage.

Positioned in a mid-rear location above the transmission to centralize the weight, this engine, powered by four triple-barrel Weber carburetors, produces 360 horsepower, allowing the coupe to reach a theoretical top speed of nearly 300 km/h.

This carburetor-equipped version preceded the introduction of electronic fuel injection on the BBi models starting in 1981.
