The first European carburetor-equipped models produced through 1980 featured a dry-sump lubrication system (Tipo F106 AB), a technical feature derived from racing that lowered the center of gravity and ensured optimal oil pressure.

Powered by four twin-barrel Weber carburetors, this original version produces 255 chevaux, making it the most powerful production 308 variant before the power reductions associated with the transition to electronic fuel injection (GTBi) and later to four-valve cylinder heads (Quattrovalvole).
Chassis 30731 was delivered new by Charles Pozzi, the official French importer, in March 1980 to its first owner, a resident of the Paris region, who kept it until 1989.
