In May 1979, Citroën introduced the Méhari 4x4, featuring a spare tire on the hood and rear disc brakes.

Expensive to purchase, sales were slow, and production of the “4x4” ceased in 1983 after only about 1,300 units were made.

It was one of the few 4x4s with independent suspension on all four wheels capable of climbing slopes up to 60%.
