In 1968, Peugeot unveiled the 504, its new flagship sedan.
The following year, the brand renewed its collaboration with Pininfarina to design coupe and cabriolet versions of the 504.
The Italian coachbuilder distinguished himself by creating a unique model, sharing no body parts with the sedan.
At launch, the cabriolet was powered by the sedan's 1.8-liter, fuel-injected 4-cylinder engine.
This engine was soon replaced by a 2-liter unit.
In 1974, the V6 PRV made its appearance, displacing all previous engines, much to the dismay of some customers.
Faced with this reaction, Peugeot reintroduced the more accessible, reliable and economical 4-cylinder in 1978.
