Introduced in 1966, the Honda S800 coupés and cabriolets caused a sensation.
They went on sale in 1967.
Heir to the Japanese firm's core business, the S800 adopted a motorcycle engine, a 791 cm3 four-cylinder developing 78 horsepower at 8,500 rpm! Weighing in at between 720 and 780 kilograms, it was an extremely pleasant car to drive, with crisp acceleration enhanced by a sound unlike any other car on the road.
The S800's mechanics are all the more pleasing given that the chassis was particularly modern for its time, featuring independent front wheels guided by a rack and pinion, and a Panhard bar rear axle with coil springs.
Only 11,406 examples were produced between 1967 and 1970, a quarter of which were delivered in France.
