In 1909, the Darracq firm sold a large part of its capital to a group of Lombard financiers.

In 1910, the ALFA company was formed to continue automobile production at the Portello plant near Milan.

Industrialist Nicola Romeo bought ALFA in December 1915.

In February 1918, the company adopted the name Italiana Ingeniere Nicola Romeo e Cia.

Cars coming out of the production workshops now bear the Alfa Romeo name.
From 1911 onwards, the brand entered competition, and the 1920s saw a steady stream of sporting successes.

The arrival of engineer Vittorio Jano in 1925 enabled Alfa Romeo to produce some of the best racing cars until his departure in 1938.
After the Second World War, the Italian manufacturer moved away from the artisanal production that had prevailed since its beginnings, towards mass production.

This change took shape with the launch of the Giulietta in 1954, followed by the Giulia in 1962.
