Produced for 15 years, between 1965 and 1980, the Renault 16 sold more than 1.8 million units.

Its success spread from its launch until many years later.

It was presented to the public for the first time at the 1965 Geneva Motor Show.

In 1966, it won the European Car of the Year award (a distinction often shared with Citroën).

In its TS version, the R16 is powered by a 1,565cm3 83hp engine with a hemispherical cylinder head and a twin-barrel carburetor (luxurious all the same).

It also features two additional long-range iodine headlamps as well as new rims and reversing lights (optional for 1968 models and standard for 1969).

The dashboard with round dials includes a rev counter and for 1970 models a watch.

The optional electric front windows appear for the first time on a French car.
