The Renault 18 is a French saloon car par excellence.

It was created at the end of the 1970s to replace the Renault 12, which was at the end of its service life.

As a car for our parents or as a first car, the 18 allowed a large population to travel in comfort at a reduced price.

A real success at the beginning of the 1980s, the 18 was the best-selling French saloon and its production was already being exported internationally; the Renault brand used this image to launch its slogan "Renault 18, an international requirement".

Reliable and sturdy, the saloon car was initially powered by the brand's renowned engines, notably the Cléon engine in cast iron or aluminium versions, followed by the Douvrin engine, which was slightly larger in displacement and could also be fuelled by diesel, an energy source that was in full expansion during this period.
