Originally a manufacturer of weapons and ammunition, notably the 75 mm gun, the Hotchkiss company represented France with dignity in the construction of quality cars from 1904 to 1955.

The brand with the crossed barrels is known for the robustness and the reliability of its mechanics.

The factory was based in Saint-Denis, north of Paris.

After the Great War, Hotchkiss cleverly positioned itself in a niche market that was not very popular.

It should be noted that most brands supplied either 8 to 10 hp cars or 15 to 20 hp cars.

It was almost to fill a gap that Hotchkiss took on the 12-13 hp segment with its AM model and achieved enormous commercial success.

Its 2,413 cc four-cylinder side-valve engine was reputed to be "puncture-proof" and very hard-working, "swallowing" the kilometres without suffering.

The 12cv Hotchkiss became a reference in a very short time.
