Créé en 1903 par Adolphe Clément-Bayard et Charles Chetwynd, sous le nom de Clement-Talbot, la société est achetée par Darracq après la première guerre mondiale.
Le constructeur devient Talbot seulement en 1922.
En 1935, après la faillite de Sunbeam-Talbot- Darracq, l'ingénieur italien Anthony Lago prend le contrôle de la branche française de la société, tandis que la branche anglaise, rachetée par Rootes, deviendra Sunbeam Talbot, puis Sunbeam.
Crise oblige, Talbot doit proposer des modèles plus modestes.
La très réussie Talbot T120 Baby inaugure un nouveau châssis plus court et plus léger et un nouveau moteur 6 cylindres en ligne monobloc à soupapes en tête très performant.
Ce moteur développe 90 ch et permet une vitesse maxi de 150 km/h grâce à un poids limité.
