1923 MATHIS TYPE P Châssis n° 34432 Carte grise française Émile Mathis fut d'abord distributeur d'automobiles de diverses marques à Strasbourg, ville alors occupée par l'Allemagne.
Il s'associa avec Ettore Bugati pour construire des véhicules Mathis Hermes Simplex de 40, 60, et 90 ch à l'usine de Graffenstaden.
En 1907, les associés se séparèrent et Mathis fit construire une vaste usine à Strasbourg.
Bugatti se consacra alors aux voitures de sport et de prestige, tandis que Mathis se tourna vers des véhicules plus classiques.
En 1926, Charles Mathis, s'installa en Région Parisienne, à Gennevilliers.
Cette usine travailla aussi pour la construction aéronautique.
Le moteur type «P» est un 4 cylindres latéral borgne de 760 cm³.
