L'Alpine A110 est introduite en 1962 au Salon de Paris comme une évolution de l'A108.
Si l'A108 était conçue à partir de la Renault Dauphine, l'A110 utilise des pièces de Renault 8.
L'A110 bénéficie toujours d'un châssis-poutre en acier avec une carrosserie en fibre de verre-polyester et d'un moteur en porte à faux arrière.
La principale différence avec l'A108 est l'arrière agrandi pour pouvoir accueillir le nouveau moteur quatre cylindres Renault à cinq paliers, ceci lui donnant un style plus effilé.
La 1300 S est équipée du moteur de la R8 Gordini et dévelloppe 120ch DIN.
