AI Listing Summary

This 1978 Volkswagen Beetle Last Edition, number 288 of 300, is a rolling restoration project with a significant portion of the hard work already completed, including a professional repaint. It has been in the same family since 1981, but the restoration was interrupted, leaving some interior parts missing and the engine's status to be verified by the buyer.

The car is described as a 'rolling restoration project' with an interrupted restoration process. While the body has been professionally repainted, the interior components (seats and headlining) are missing, and the engine's completeness and current running condition are uncertain due to the unfinished restoration. This indicates substantial reconditioning is required.

Now this could be a very rewarding project! This 1978 Volkswagen Beetle Last Edition is one of just 300 produced, with this particular example proudly retaining its all-important original factory Last Edition plaque, confirming it as number 288 of 300.

The story behind it is rather poignant.

Its late owner purchased the Beetle way back in 1981, making this an example that had been part of his life for well over 40 years.

In 2015, he decided the time had come to give his cherished Beetle the full restoration it deserved.

It was subsequently entrusted to specialists, with the body and paintwork professionally attended to and the interior intended to receive similar treatment.

Unfortunately, the original restoration company went into administration part-way through the process, leaving the Beetle securely locked away by the administrators.

Sadly, when access was eventually regained, the original seats and headlining had mysteriously disappeared, never to be seen again.
