The BMW 2002 tii, introduced in 1971, was an evolution of the already successful 2002 model from BMW’s ‘Neue Klasse’ (New Class) lineup, which had redefined the company’s identity in the 1960s by focusing on sporty, driver-oriented saloons.

The ‘tii’ designation stood for Touring International Injection, highlighting its key upgrade; a Kugelfischer mechanical fuel-injection system that replaced the twin carburettors of the 2002 ti.

This innovation boosted performance to around 130 horsepower, giving the lightweight car lively acceleration and helping cement BMW’s reputation for producing agile, performance-focused road cars.
