Many will be familiar with the Rover Mini 40, a special edition created to celebrate its barely believable 40th year in production.

Limited to 250 units and launched in 1999, towards the end of the Mini’s run, UK cars were available in 3 colours only (Mulberry Red, Island Blue and Old English White) and they were all supplied with the wide-arch Sports Pack and 13 inch wheels.

The Japanese market got its own run of 150 Mini 40s in the same colours but they all came without the Sports Pack.

However, the 40 th anniversary celebrations weren’t over for the Japanese and in late ’99 they got a further special edition, the Mini Cooper 40.

This was only available in Solar Red and Brooklands Green and, like the UK 40s, came as standard with the Sports Pack and the bigger wheels.

The precise number of Cooper 40s made isn’t available but the Mini 40 Register believe it may be as few as 100.
