The Triumph Vitesse 6 was introduced by the Standard-Triumph Company in 1962 as a higher-performance derivative of the Triumph Herald.

Styled by the renowned Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, the Vitesse combined the compact, practical body of the Herald with a six-cylinder engine, giving it more refinement and power than its sibling.

The initial version, the Vitesse 6 (often referred to as the Vitesse 1.6), featured a 1596cc straight-six engine derived from the Standard Vanguard, producing around 70 bhp.

It offered significantly improved performance while retaining the Herald’s separate chassis, which made it easy to modify and maintain.

Available in both saloon and convertible forms, the Vitesse 6 was praised for its lively acceleration, stylish looks, and relatively affordable price.

In 1966, it was succeeded by the more powerful Triumph Vitesse 2-Litre, which further cemented the model’s reputation as a compact but spirited British sports saloon.
