In 1982 Autokraft acquired the rights to the famous AC name and went on to produce the high quality, aluminium-bodied Autokraft AC MkIV, an update of the legendary Cobra.
This led to the development of several prototypes of a next-generation AC to take the place of the Cobra, a process which would, ultimately, lead to the introduction of a new Ace at the 1993 Motor Show.
Hand built from aluminium at AC's Brooklands factory and aimed squarely at the luxury convertible market dominated by Mercedes' SL, the new Brooklands Ace was priced accordingly, starting at £50,000.
A thoroughly modern supercar in every way, the Ace featured a stainless-steel chassis and independent suspension all round.
It was powered by the latest Ford Mustang 5.0-litre V8 engine producing around 260bhp.
To live up to its luxury remit, the Ace was supremely well equipped, including an electric hood, ABS brakes, air conditioning and heated seats.
46 of this original model were produced before Autokraft's demise...
