Description
The Fosse Way Collection comprises nine rare and eclectic motor cars, thoughtfully chosen and carefully maintained by a respected private collector, and each now offered with considerable recent investment. When Porsche unveiled the 928 at the 1977 Geneva Motor Show, it signalled a bold new direction for Stuttgart.
Conceived as a potential successor to the 911, it abandoned the rear-engined, air-cooled formula in favour of a front-mounted, water-cooled V8 driving the rear wheels through a transaxle, giving near-perfect weight distribution.
Styled under Anatole Lapine, its smooth, sculpted lines and distinctive pop-up headlamps still look remarkably modern today and, so advanced was the 928, that it was named European Car of the Year in 1978, the only sports car ever to win the award. Around 240bhp was provided by an all-aluminium 4,474cc V8 while the innovative 'Weissach' rear axle provided a degree of passive rear-wheel steering for exceptional stability.
