Description
Much of the Porsche 911's development can be traced back to the factory's motorsport programme, and few road cars encapsulate that relationship better than the 930 Turbo.
Developed during an era when turbocharging was still new and borderline exotic technology for a road car, the 930 was launched in 1975 at the very top of the 911 range, combining extraordinary performance with the usability and quality expected from Porsche. Early examples utilised a 3-litre flat-six with a single KKK turbocharger, producing 260bhp and providing the sort of performance that placed the 911 Turbo firmly amongst the world's fastest road cars at the time.
Its dramatically flared wheel arches, wide wheels and distinctive rear spoiler gave the Turbo a visual identity every bit as memorable as its performance, creating a silhouette that would become synonymous with Porsche for decades to come. In 1978, Porsche substantially developed the 930 and created what many regard as the definitive early Turbo.
