The original Audi RS performance estate, the RS2 was a remarkable collaboration between Audi and Porsche, produced between March 1994 and July 1995 and based upon the Audi 80 Avant.

With a contemporary price of £45,705, it was an exceptionally capable and expensive car in its day, with specially prepared bodyshells transported to Porsche’s Zuffenhausen facility in Stuttgart for final assembly and enhancement.
Porsche-developed suspension and braking components were complemented by an extensively uprated version of Audi’s 2.2-litre, five-cylinder, 20-valve turbocharged engine, including a Porsche-specified KKK turbocharger.

Producing 311bhp at 6,500rpm and 302lb/ft of torque at 3,000rpm, power was delivered through a six-speed manual gearbox to all four wheels, with a manually activated locking rear differential.

The resulting 0–62mph time of just 5.4 seconds and 163mph top speed were extraordinary figures for a practical five-door estate.
