The story of the GT3 RS began with the iconic Porsche 996 GT3 RS, launched in 2003 as a homologation-inspired evolution of the focused 911 GT3.

Built in limited numbers and instantly recognisable by its distinctive graphics, lightweight construction, polycarbonate rear window and thinner glass, the 996 GT3 RS distilled Porsche's motorsport expertise into a road-legal package.

Powered by the Mezger flat-six and developed with minimal compromise, it established the formula that continues to define every GT3 RS that followed.
Over the next two decades Porsche continually refined the concept.

The 997-generation introduced more power, wider tracks and improved aerodynamics, while the 991 GT3 RS moved the model into a new era with rear-wheel steering and increasingly sophisticated chassis electronics.

By the time the 992 GT3 RS arrived, the model had evolved from a lightweight road car with racing influences into something far closer to a road-legal racing car.
