The Chevrolet Corvette C1 Roadster represents the final and most developed evolution of the first-generation Corvette, a model that had matured significantly since its 1953 introduction.
By 1962, Chevrolet had refined both the styling and engineering of the C1, resulting in a car that combined distinctive design with genuine performance credentials, firmly establishing its place amongst contemporary sports cars.
The defining upgrade for the 1962 model year was the introduction of the 327ci (5.4-litre) V8 engine, replacing the earlier 283ci unit.
Offered in several states of tune, the most desirable specification was the fuel-injected version producing 360bhp.
Equipped with this system (RPO 582), the Corvette delivered performance in excess of 140mph with strong acceleration, placing it firmly in competition with leading European sports cars of the period.
