Introduced in 1972, the Saab 99 EMS (Electronic Manual Special) was conceived to inject a more overtly sporting character into the 99 range and to underpin Saab’s growing works rally ambitions, acting as the crucial stepping stone to the later and now-iconic 99 Turbo
Powered by Saab’s 2.0-litre (1985 cc) overhead camshaft inline-four with Bosch D-jetronic fuel injection (from 1974) offering 118bhp and 123lb.ft fed through a manual four-speed gearbox
Finished in Sterling Silver, this example was first registered in April 1974 as PSF 656M, later wearing the cherished registration JOY 99 from 1984 under its second ownership
Notably maintained by its original supplying dealer, St Clair Motors of Kirkcaldy, before passing into its current (third) ownership in 2009
