Background The Mercedes-Benz W111 is a line of full-sized luxury cars produced by Mercedes-Benz between 1959 and 1971, including four-door saloons (1959–1968) and two-door coupés and cabriolets (1961–1971).

The saloons’ bodywork featured distinctive pointed tailfins that gave the models their Heckflosse nickname — German for "fintail".

The coupé version of the W111 appeared in 1960 and was distinguished from the saloons of the range by its more luxurious and lavishly equipped interior, as well as exterior styling, which was a squarer, more modern-looking version of the saloon.

The W111’s refinement was further enhanced by the fitting of a range of smooth and powerful straight-six engines.

This particular car features the 2.2-litre M127 engine, which provides a nice blend of refinement, performance, and relative economy.

In this application, the engine features Bosch multipoint fuel injection and was originally rated at approximately 120 bhp.
