Louis Chenard (1887–1949), a French entrepreneur and racing driver born on December 5, 1887, in Clichy near Paris, founded the Automobiles Louis Chenard company in 1920 following the end of World War I.


He established the firm in Colombes, a suburb of Paris, as a low-volume manufacturer specializing in small family cars targeted at the domestic market.
The company operated independently and had no connection to the earlier Chenard & Walcker marque, which had been founded in 1898 by Ernest Chenard and Henri Walcker.Headquartered in Colombes, Louis Chenard focused on assembling vehicles from sourced components to produce affordable and reliable automobiles amid France's post-war economic recovery, a period marked by expanding demand for personal transportation.
