The 1980s proved to be a golden era for the hot hatch, with manufacturers increasingly combining everyday practicality with engaging performance and motorsport-inspired engineering.

Toyota was no exception, and the Corolla GT established itself as a particularly appealing proposition, benefiting from the marque’s reputation for reliability and the spirited character of its twin-cam engine.

With its crisp, angular styling, compact proportions and understated sporting details, the Corolla GT remains a fine example of the era’s approach to affordable performance.

First registered in 1987, this example is finished in white with contrasting red pinstriping and the distinctive ‘Twin Cam 16v’ graphics along its flanks.

The cabin features period blue and grey cloth upholstery, remarkably well-preserved, while the engine bay houses Toyota’s familiar twin-cam powerplant.
