The ‘HC’ designation denoted High Compression, with the 2.2-litre Lotus 910S DOHC 16-valve turbocharged engine benefiting from larger inlet and exhaust valves, forged aluminium pistons, twin Dellorto carburettors and electronic ignition.

Producing 215bhp and 220lb-ft of torque, the Esprit was capable of 0–60mph in just 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 152mph.
