Willys introduced the Jeep to the civilian market in 1945, adapting its proven military vehicle for working life and laying the foundations for an off-road dynasty.

Within three years, the Land Rover had arrived, followed another three years later by Toyota’s Land Cruiser.

Willys continued to evolve the original formula, culminating in the CJ-5 in 1953, with ‘CJ’ standing for Civilian Jeep.

Remaining in production for 30 years, the CJ-5 was eventually succeeded by the CJ-7, which featured a longer wheelbase and improved chassis.

Production continued until 1986, with just under 380,000 examples built.

That longevity, following three decades of CJ-5 production, is testament to the Jeep’s ruggedness, durability and reliability.
Purchased by our vendor in 2019, this example had previously been owned by the same keeper for more than 25 years.
