Although considerably longer and heavier than its predecessor, the R107 retained many of the Stuttgart marque’s hallmarks; proportionally, the car is reminiscent of the Pagoda, and shares a similar grille, which also recalls Merc’s legendary Gullwing 300 SL.

Mechanically, the R107 utilised independent wheel suspension using double wishbones and anti-drive control at the front and a diagonal swing axle at the rear.
