Introduced in 1963, the Giulia SS was essentially a larger engined version of the earlier Bertone-designed Giulietta SS, itself inspired by Alfa Romeo’s achingly beautiful ‘Disco Volante’.
While Alfa Romeo developed the model over time, all Sprint Speciales adhered to a basic concept of lightness and aerodynamic efficiency, using both to extract maximum performance from the familiar four-cylinder, twin-cam Alfa Romeo engine.Built in January 1964 as a standard Giulia SS, this example became was a mere 25 Sprint Speciales supplied to Alfa Romeo UK in July that year, who in turn passed them to Ruddspeed to undertake factory-sanctioned right hand drive conversions.
