Maranello released the upgraded 456M – meaning Modificata - at the 1998 Geneva Motor Show, which featured improved aerodynamics and cooling; the Connolly leather interior was refreshed with new seats and a new Becker stereo.

Visually, the 456 had a smaller grille and fog lights outside the grille.

The power output remained unchanged on the Modificata, but the cylinder firing order was changed for smoother running.

Aerodynamically efficient with a subtly beautiful curvaceous body, the 456 featured a front-mounted four-cam 5.5 litre V12 – which produced a massive 398 ft lb of torque at 4500rpm - rear transaxle, tubular steel space frame chassis, and all-independent suspension.
