Built in Coventry, the part-built car was taken to Vanden Plas, Kingsbury for final painting in one of a range of special colours, the fitting of a black vinyl roof and exclusive trimming which identified the model from its standard Daimler cousins.

The disc brakes were ventilated at the front and complemented by independent suspension all round.

Inside, air-conditioning, a radio/stereo tape player with electric aerial and speakers were all standard.

In total, only 342 Series I’s were made before the model was replaced in 1973.

Acquired by the vendor in 2014 with five previous owners recorded, this incredibly striking Daimler presents in Opalescent Aubergine with a contrasting tan interior.
