The Maserati GranTurismo, and its convertible cousin the GranCabrio, entered production in 2007.

Powered initially by the 4.7 litre Ferrari-derived V8 engine sitting in the Quattroporte V platform, the GranTurismo was famously developed in just nine months, a record that remains unbeaten to this day.

The reason for this furious pace was that Ferrari kept the designs for the planned next Maserati coupé for themselves when the Fiat Chrysler Group took over, eventually morphing those designs into the Ferrari California.

So, with their plans nicked from under their noses, Maserati had to start again and work fast, and what a great job they did with both the GranTurismo and GranCabrio.
