The 348 Challenge cars are perhaps the most interesting and significant model of the 348 family and represent an important piece of Ferrari history as the first of a great line of Challenge series models.

The series debuted in 1993 and included the Italian and European series whose cars were required to be road legal as well being driven on the track.

It was rumoured that the European and cars supplied to Japan received a higher power output than that of the US cars; something that has never actually been confirmed by Ferrari.

The engine used in the participating cars was indeed similar to the road car with the only noticeable changes being slick tyres, new body kit, better brake-pads, roll-bar, smaller battery in a different position and seat belts; however in 1994, the G-spec engined cars had to be modified with the H-spec cylinder heads and injection system.
