In February 1991, Porsche released the 944 Turbo Cabriolet, which combined the Turbo S's 250 bhp engine with the cabriolet body built by the ASC-American Sunroof Company at Weinsberg in Germany.

Porsche initially announced that 600 would be made, but ultimately 625 were built, 100 of which were righthand drive of these 50 are believed to of been supplied to the UK and the remaining 50 were sent between Australia, South Africa and Japan. The Porsche 944 Turbo cabriolet was built on the platform of the later 944 S2 series and was in fact one of the most powerful open top sports cars available at the time and with a 0-60 mph time of 5.7 sec and a top speed of 162mph, the 944 Turbo cabriolet is by no means any slouch even in today’s market.

The Standard spec included Porsche anti theft, Blaupunkt Symphony stereo radio cassette player, air conditioning and Electric Seats and with a start price of £46,994 this made the car a direct contender for its brother, the 911 but at a higher price.
