The Beetle, much like the Mini, is a true icon of 20th Century motoring and occupies a significant position in the hearts and minds of drivers and enthusiasts.

It is the longest-running and most manufactured car of a single design platform anywhere in the world.

Although produced in Mexico from 1967, it was in the beginning of 1978 when the cancellation of production in Germany meant that the Mexican Volkswagen Beetle started to be exported to European markets, including West Germany and other countries.

With the cancellation of production at the Wolfsburg factory, the Käfer as it was known in Germany, was celebrated with a final edition which was limited in numbers with just 300 units exported to the UK from Wolfsburg.

In 2003 VW announced the end of production and the final original Type 1 VW Beetle (No.

21,529,464) rolled off the production line at Puebla, Mexico, on 30th July 2003.
