The Jaguar XJS was a luxury grand tourer produced from 1975 through to 1996 and replaced the E-Type.
Although it never had quite the same sporting image, the XJS was a competent grand tourer and actually more aerodynamic than the E-Type.
In total, 115,413 models were produced during a 21 year life span; the last of which came off the production line on 4th April 1996.
The specification of the XJS compared well with both Italian cars; it was able to accelerate to 60mph in 7.6 seconds and had a top speed of 143mph.
From 1988, a special XJR-S version of the V12 5.3-litre car was produced by JaguarSport, a separate company owned jointly by Jaguar and TWR.
This car had a distinctive body kit, special alloy wheels and suspension together with a number of handling improvements.
The first 100 of these cars were termed 'Celebration Le Mans' to commemorate Jaguar's 1988 win at Le Mans.
Between 1988 and 1989 a total of 350 XJR-S cars were produced with the 5.3-litre engine.
