The K Type Magnette, and in particular the K3, is seen as the ultimate pre-war MG.

However, in many ways the L-Type Magna is quite similar featuring a six cylinder engine which closely resembles the K-Type coupled with a good handling lightweight chassis.

The L-Type Magna range was announced in March 1933 as a replacement for the F-Type which had been in production since October 1931.

The chassis had the same dimensions as the earlier car with a 3ft 6in track fitted with the large 12 inch diameter brakes.

The engine, designated a KC, was identical to that fitted to the first K-Types, save the camshaft and carburettors.

In all, 486 L1's were manufactured together with 90 L2's.

This particular L1 Type Magna, fitted with a Continental Coupé body and manufactured in January 1934 was not sold until November 1934 through dealer, George Newman of Euston Road in London, to Sydney Middleton of Brighton.

The Continental Coupé was a striking design but not actually that popular with buyers...
