The foundation for Alfa Romeo producing outstanding road and racing cars was set in the 1920s and 1930s and highlighted by Nuvolari beating the advanced Mercedes and Auto Unions with an outdated P3 in 1935; a tradition which has carried through decades.
In 1963 and a new Alfa Romeo was born with the introduction of the 105 series Bertone Giulia GT.
The Bertone body featured the Scalino (stepped) front end styling with the bonnet being a ¼"" higher than the nose of the car.
In 1965 the model was revised with the introduction of the GT Veloce.
Both models of the Sprint GT and GT Veloce models went on to become popular in standard form and spurned the successful competition version, the GTA (Gran Turismo Allegerita (or lightened).
Later wide bodied versions were produced so that the wheel track could be widened and fitted with larger width wheels.
