The Lotus Omega (Lotus Carlton as it was known in the UK) was a four door sports saloon based on the Vauxhall Carlton chassis with a heavily modified Vauxhall six cylinder turbocharged engine.
The car created headlines upon its release as it boasted 377bhp and top speed of 177mph, figures which are not normally associated with four door saloons! Lotus had re-worked the 2969cc 24V straight six used in the Carlton GSi and bored it out to 3615cc, in addition twin Garrett T25 turbochargers were attached resulting in 377bhp @ 5200 rpm, equally impressive was the torque figure of 419 lb ft @4200rpm.
Power was transmitted through a six speed ZF manual gearbox, (the same as the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1) and power was driven to rear wheels.
The brakes were supplied by AP with their 330mm ventilated discs all round with racing callipers.
