Most famous for coal mining and male voice choirs, Wales’ Rhondda Valley was also home to Gilbern Sports Cars from 1959 to its demise in 1973.

Some 1,005 vehicles were produced all told, and among the 500 or so that remain is this very smartly-presented 1972 Invader.

One of just 68 Estate versions made, it is white with a black vinyl roof and red vinyl interior trim.

According to Experian Autocheck it has had just three keepers from new, the most recent of whom acquired the Welsh wonder two years ago, since when it has seen regular use and been resprayed as recently as early this year.

He informs us that the brakes have also been refurbished, the starter motor, carburettor and battery renewed, and electronic ignition and a twin stainless steel exhaust system installed.

He says the Invader is ‘very reliable’ and presently grades the 3-litre Ford engine, bodywork and paintwork as ‘excellent’ and the upholstery as ‘average to good’.
